New Bluffdale AC Location Factors: Breaker Distance, Obstructions

In part one of this two-part blog series, we looked at some of the key areas to consider while choosing where to install a new outdoor AC unit. This is a process that's often carried out during the post-summer period we're in right now, and while you may not think that the outdoor location of your unit is all that important for the ultimate efficiency and operations of the unit, it actually does play a role.

At Airtime Heating & Cooling, we're happy to offer full heating and air conditioning installation services for any Bluffdale or nearby client in need, and this includes assistance with the entire process -- such as determining proper location for the outdoor unit. What are some of the other major factors that we'll help you look at while choosing location? Here are several.

Distance From Electrical Breaker Box

Another important consideration is how far away the unit will be from the electrical breaker box. For those unaware, your breaker box is the one that controls the power running to your entire home, so it needs to be within a reasonable distance from your AC unit.

A good range is about 40 or 50 feet -- if that's not feasible, you may need to change the location of your box, or upgrade it in some way. That may cost you more money but will help guarantee proper power to the unit.

Another point we'll consider is the amount of space that can be dedicated to running a gas line if you have natural gas or propane as your fuel source for heating. Regardless of how far away from your house these are, though, it's generally better not to locate them in an area where people could trip over them.

Any Obstructions

Your outdoor unit requires some space on all sides for proper ventilation and airflow, so you also need to consider any obstructions that could prevent this. If for example you have a deck or fence on the side of your unit, our experts will likely recommend moving it away from the home itself so that there's no potential for issues.

Most units will need at least one foot of space on all sides to run smoothly, and sometimes more depending on the unit itself. If you have any obstructions that get in the way of this, then we may recommend other locations for your outdoor AC unit during our inspection process.

As you can see, there are several major aspects to think about when choosing where to install your outdoor AC unit. And as mentioned, if you're a Bluffdale client in need of our services for this or any other reason, don't hesitate to contact the experienced professionals at Airtime Heating & Cooling today! We'll be happy to assist you.
